A few things I'm doing in my business with the planet in mind

Happy Earth Day everyone!

I thought it would be the perfect time to list a few things I'm doing in my business with the planet in mind:

1. All my orders are posted in cardboard boxes, allowing customers to reuse or recycle after they have received their parcel,

2. No daily commute for me as I work from my home studio, and I'm reducing my carbon footprint further by walking to the post office to send deliveries,

3. I am currently using up the last of my plastic sleeves. Once they are gone, I plan to post my greeting cards without any sleeves (the Naked Cards Campaign) and use biodegradable cellophane to protect my cards at art fayres and markets,

4. My current suppliers are all UK based companies,

5. For printing, I use Speedball fabric block printing inks and Caligo Safe Wash Printmaking inks. These inks do not require solvents like white spirits to clean. Instead, they are cleaned with vegetable oil and/or soap and water,

6. My pencil cases and make-up/wash bags are now made from unlaminated cotton canvas, making them a more environmentally friendly bag,

7. For protecting surfaces when printing and cleaning I reuse old and used newspapers and magazines (I ask my family to save them up for me) and then recycle them after.
